Ma Cherie Cortez, PhD spent 27+ years leading enterprise transformation programs across 20+ markets — including engagements connected to AB InBev, Philips, DLL and Lloyds Banking Group — before turning that experience toward AI governance.
That order matters. Most people arrive at AI governance from one of two directions: deep AI/ML technical expertise, or legal and compliance. Ma Cherie arrives from a third place — enterprise transformation. She has spent her career getting large, multicultural organizations to actually change how they operate, across IT, risk, and business teams that don't naturally agree.
That's the lens she brings to AI governance: it isn't solved by writing a policy. It's solved by turning inventory, ownership, controls, evidence and monitoring into things people actually do — on Monday morning, not just in a compliance binder.
She holds ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor (PECB), IAPP AI Governance Professional (AIGP), and EXIN AI Compliance Professional certifications, layered on a long-standing foundation in PMP, ITIL and Agile delivery — credentials built deliberately, not adopted because AI became fashionable.
Her view on certification is direct: ISO 42001 is evidence of a management system and governance discipline — not a guarantee that a model is accurate, unbiased, or incident-free. Governance should make safe scaling easier, not make experimentation impossible.
